COMMISSIONING A PIECE OF ARTWORK

2. Composition: The first task was to take dozens of photographs of the car in secret during decent weather. These are some examples:






The best angle was chosen based on potential compositions and lighting:

Several options were digitally put together and options discussed with the client. The final composition was chosen by the client and we finalised the outline, medium (oil), surface (panel), frame (satin black), size and delivery date. We had to factor-in a time delay as oil paint can take months to dry:

3. The drawing and painting process:



The painting is done direct from images on my calibrated monitor (image being the same size as the painting), with daylight bulbs in my studio; the best compromise between working from life (not always practical) and printed photos (drab and dull).
